Zambia Wilderness Circuit
Waterfalls, Rivers & Big-Game Safaris
Zambia’s best-known travel highlights include Victoria Falls on the Zambezi, the wildlife-rich South Luangwa, the river landscapes of Lower Zambezi, and the vast wilderness of Kafue. Together, they create a classic southern African route with strong safari, river, and adventure appeal.
Livingstone
Arrive in Livingstone, the historic gateway town to Victoria Falls and the wider Zambezi region. Settle in along the river and enjoy Zambia’s relaxed safari-town atmosphere before the adventure begins.
Victoria Falls
Spend the day at Victoria Falls, where the Zambezi plunges over basalt gorges in one of the world’s most spectacular waterfall settings. Walk the viewpoints, cross Knife-edge Bridge, and take in Livingstone Island or Devil’s Pool when conditions allow.
Mosi — oa — Tunya & Zambezi Activities
Explore Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, a compact wildlife area beside Livingstone and the Zambezi River where rhino, elephant, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, and other large mammals can be seen. Later, choose from Zambia’s classic Victoria Falls activities such as rafting, bungee jumping, bridge swinging, or a scenic flight.
Lower Zambezi
Travel to Lower Zambezi National Park, one of Zambia’s most picturesque and remote parks, known for its riverbank lodges and wide-open wilderness. The park lies opposite Mana Pools across the Zambezi, creating a truly wild transfrontier safari landscape.
Lower Zambezi River Safari
Enjoy canoeing, fishing, boat safaris, and relaxed game viewing along the Zambezi channels and islands. Hippo, elephant, zebra, buffalo, and other wildlife are commonly seen from the river, making this one of Zambia’s most atmospheric safari days.
South Luangwa
Head to South Luangwa National Park, widely regarded as one of Africa’s great wildlife sanctuaries. The park is especially known for the Luangwa River, its oxbow lagoons, and the strong concentration of wildlife around the river system.
South Luangwa Safari
Spend a full safari day in South Luangwa with game drives, walking safaris, birding, and night drives. Zambia Tourism notes that the park is famous for walking safaris and that the dry season brings wildlife closer to the river’s edge for excellent viewing.
Kafue Wilderness
Travel onward to Kafue, Zambia’s oldest and largest national park, a vast and largely untouched wilderness with strong wildlife and birding potential. Its scale and quiet feel make it a rewarding final stop for a broader Zambia circuit.
Kafue at Leisure
Spend one more day in Kafue for game drives, river time, or lodge relaxation before departure. The park is known for its exclusivity, huge landscapes, and the feeling of having the wilderness to yourself.
